‘Batterseaness’
When Battersea was its own borough (before being joined with Wandsworth) in the 1960’s the word ‘Batterseaness’ came to describe a certain way of life.
Batterseaness was epitomised by the working class politics of the late 19th century, when the Town Hall in Lavender Hill which is now the Battersea Arts Centre was built.
